Summer is almost here. Yippee!!
Three years ago in Wellington, summer passed us by without so much as a glance. I remember feeling bitter watching the weather forecast: Auckland 28 degrees and sunny, Palmerston North 26 degrees and slightly overcast, Christchurch (my home town), drenched in sunshine with a strong N’or wester, Wellington–gale winds, 14 degrees! It was a year of the longest winter: floaty sundresses, sun tan lotion, swimwear, beach hats, and shorts remained all but redundant, and everyone around me was still donning winter coats, woolen hats and gloves. And so, December merged into January, until we hit February (ordinarily the warmest time of year here), and still the sky was endlessly grey.
But given that this past summer was the warmest on record, with Christmas day being the hottest the city had seen for 30 years, gives me hope that this year I can expect to wear my summer wardrobe, if not invest in some fun accessories.
The Something Else frames are thick and sturdy with clear arms. They’re a fairly conservative shape in my mind, but they’re a large frame (which I have a fondness for). They don’t come in a hardcover case unfortunately, but a fabric pouch is enclosed in the rather lovely box that they come in (I’m a sucker for packaging!). I bought them through a one day sale site, so I can’t complain if my son rips them off my face and drops them. Original RRP.$249, but you can also get them here.
Bring on the sunshine I say!
