Buster Collins is a Wellington-based jewellery label founded by Annie Collins. The Governor Bays-born artist takes inspiration from nature, lovingly creating each piece from Workspace Studios which she co-runs alongside fellow jeweller Vaune Mason.
Annie works predominantly with silver, but also crafts her pieces from gold, precious stones and natural materials such as wood, leather and antler. For Annie, the value of New Zealand made jewellery lies in the time and care it takes for the crafts person to produce it. She refers to modern 3-D printing and laser cutting as ‘exciting techniques’ but prefers to keep things hand-made: “Jewellery should be handed down the generations; a piece made of precious metals will outlast all of us,” she says.
