As the saying goes, it’s what’s on the inside that counts. So, when it comes to the delicate question of what you might be wearing beneath your layers of clothing, Rebecca Rasool and Bethany Payne believe in throwing out the old to make way for the new.
The pair are advocates of encouraging self-confidence in women and embracing the reality and beauty of feminine curves, which, they say, invariably means ‘getting rid of those granny pants.’ Establishing Her Apparel — a lingerie label launched early last year — has been their way of supporting this ethos.
Rebecca and Bethany may only be in their early twenties, but they believe that their combination of personalities and skills ultimately makes for what has fast become, a perfect partnership; Rebecca has a Diploma in Fashion Design and Technology describing herself as; hard-working, cheeky, quick and creative; Bethany counterbalances Rebecca as the ambitious planner who also loves to take risks.
It has been a long-time dream for both women to run their own label, but according to Rebecca the initial impetus came via a gift: “My Husband bought me an Overlocker and the first thing I made was a pair of lacy briefs in 10-minutes. Soon after, I realised that this was what I wanted to do.”
With a newfound passion, Rebecca’s friends began placing their orders, and word was getting around. Bethany soon joined her, and the pair say
that the brand has evolved through ‘hard work and relevant experience in the fashion industry.’ With Bethany’s Diploma in Fashion Business ( FBI Fashion College, Australia), they have not seen the need to seek out additional guidance, rather, making decisions collaboratively and closely observing the market, has put them in good stead.
Learning to pull a creative team together has so far, been one of their biggest challenges. “Our favourite part is literally everything, and even when we are up all hours of the morning, we still love it! Photo shoots are fun and the hardest part is actually finding the right photographer, model and the right hair and makeup artists. It might not sound that difficult, but trust us…it is!”

In a competitive market with a multitude of options on offer, the pair stand by their label as one that isn’t just about the size 0 model — their brand is playful, yet daring and supports all sizes. At opposite ends of the bra-fitting spectrum, Bethany and Rebecca also understand the importance of comfort. With no under-wire in sight, their choice of fabric allows for plenty of stretch, with the express purpose of providing a complimentary fit.
“Seeing women show us how beautiful they feel in our lingerie is just the best feeling in the world. We love colour, curves and we regularly ask our fan-base for feedback.”
Within what is primarily a lace collection, they also have an invisible bra that pushes up for maximum support and cleavage, “It is seriously amazing and you will never wear a traditional bra again. I actually have cleavage now!” says Bethany.
Rebecca and Bethany are based between New Zealand and Australia, hoping to grow the label to meet the requirements of the HER girl. Ambitious and eager, they have a vision to expand their collection into loungewear and sleepwear: “We also aim to have more stockists globally and see a difference in the self-esteem of our customers [because] we would love to bring all women together and make a difference.”
