A no-brainer: that’s how I feel about the modern pinafore, an item of clothing that makes the perfect throw-on when a). You haven’t thought about Monday. It’s now promptly the first day of the working week and at 8:35am, you’re staring at your wardrobe with a blank expression and blurry eyes, or b). You want to revisit the nonchalance of your childhood, with the kind of intrepid enthusiasm that could see you jumping into the nearest sandpit and eating a mound of dirt—like a two-year-old having a massive tantrum—you will not be restrained.
This particular patchwork, denim pinny from Karen Walker’s SS15 collection, ‘Garden People’ is my new best friend with her unfussy A-line, 60’s vibe, and clean, modern detailing.
I had been eagerly anticipating the arrival of this collection with its garden variety prints and playful patterns. So too, there is a gleefully, splendid mix of pastels and autumnal colours that flatter a variety of skin tones.
The denim pieces in particular are among my favourite items: skirts, jackets, and of course, trousers, of which, KW has every trend covered; cropped cuts, long-line flares, and a relaxed denim pant, all make for smart weekday, or weekend casual wear.
As for my ‘double denim’ situation…it’s definitely that—a situation, and one that has seen me going ‘triple’ on occasion.
Recently, I was fortunate enough to ‘recover’ this Country Road denim shirt; bought a few years ago, I passed it on to my Mum and subsequently found myself searching and longing, for the perfect denim shirt as a consequence.
Amidst a boxful of dust and other crumpled matter, my sister retrieves it from my Mum’s garage with a look of pure delight on her face, about to exclaim her fabulous find.
“Oh my gosh,” I hastily intercept,”I’ve been looking for that everywhere!”
Yep, all is fair in love and clothing…
The moral of the story? If you’re not quite ready to let go of an item or object, pass it on to a family member in the hopes that one day, when the time is right, you’ll be reunited once more. Unless the item/ object goes promptly into a rubbish tip, in which case, so long, farewell…
