I first spotted 20-year-old Auckland model, Cedric Pasco, when I produced this story about NZFW model castings for Radio New Zealand National. I couldn’t get past his incredible hair and that beautiful face. In my eyes it’s a relief to see ethnically diverse models, like Cedric, gracing the runway and he wowed as the only male model to walk for Kate Sylvester —check out the runway show here to see Cedric in action.
I was curious to find out more about Cedric, so popped a few questions his way…
How was NZFW for you? You looked great and I’m so happy that you got to walk a lot of shows. Was it the same for you last year?
NZFW was a lot of fun, as always! I’m always down for free Red Bull. It’s been the usual for the few years I’ve been doing fashion week. Not too stressful.
How long have you been modelling and how were you discovered?
I’ve been modelling for about 3 1/2 years now. I was scouted by Angela Bevan from New Face No Agent, while I was having a browse in The Department Store in Takapuna when I was 17.
You’re based in Auckland. How long have you lived there and where did you grow up?
My family moved over here from the Philippines when I was 1-year-old, so I’ve pretty much spent my whole life here. It’s super kick back and chill. I dig that!
How did you feel about being the only male model cast in a womenswear collection for NZFW?
I have to admit I was quite nervous about it! I knew of Kate Sylvester’s gender neutral touches in her collections but I never imagined I would actually be walking in heels! I knew it wasn’t really expected of me to execute the perfect walk [but] just to the best of my abilities. The thought of having to walk amidst women who really know how to work it was reverberating in my head. I’m really grateful for the opportunity, nonetheless. It was a lot of fun and definitely an experience I won’t forget.
What’s the most fun shoot you’ve ever done?
Probably my cover shoot for a magazine in the Philippines called ‘Scout’. I got to shoot it with a couple of other long haired model friends. The cover story was about being yourself and we got to speak out about our interests and our views on gender roles, bullying/discrimination, self acceptance etc. It was really cool. I really enjoy having intellectual conversations about things I am passionate about.
Black. A lot of black. Not always, but almost.
What music are you listening to at the moment, and why?
I’m quite eclectic when it comes to music or any form of art. I listen to everything. The other day I was listening to Edith Piaf and I don’t even speak (or understand) French.
What’s one thing that none of your friends know about you?
I’ll steal a fry off you when you’re not looking.
You list ‘music and poetry’ at the top of your Instagram account. Who is your favourite poet and do you have a much loved line that remains with you from their work?
I don’t think I have an absolute favourite poet but I really like Charles Bukowski’s work.
