I’m amazed by the early arrival of warm weather in Wellington, given that it’s only October and we don’t ordinarily see sunshine until February. The sun was out in full force last weekend, with barely a breath of wind to speak of and I was out on the deck, basking in the heat.
Will it be a long hot summer? I hope so!
That means it’s time to start peeling away those layers of clothing: simplicity is a must and breezy clothing and baring the shoulders (at least in my case) is essential. This dress from Karen Walker’s Resort 15/16 collection is on the longer side for my frame, but it was just what I was after (granted that anything designed to be the same length on a person of average height, ultimately means that I’m drowning in metres of fabric).
I’ll be pairing this dress with flatform sandals or nude heels for a day at the office, and a cute clutch and swipe of red lipstick will make it dinner-date appropriate.
The dress is made of the same fabric as this top (a linen/cotton mix), but as they’re completely different styles, I don’t mind having two items in my wardrobe that are in exactly the same colour and fabric. In the past, I’ve made the mistake of buying two different dresses in the same print, which I found myself getting bored of very quickly and it’s definitely something that I won’t be repeating.
This dress also has pockets—something that always delights me on an item of clothing, and I have no idea where would I be without them!
Speaking of sunshine and warm weather, is it just me, or is the year disappearing? Ive been looking through my schedule at work and things are winding down very, very soon. I’m definitely thinking about Christmas holidays…bring it on!
