What happens when two drag queens meet at a bus stop, and why does a young woman wake up in different locations after going to bed each night? A variety of circumstances play out in the fantastic new web series, Burbs.
Filmed in different pockets of Wellington, the series provides an insight into unlikely friendships, exploring how we see ourselves and the suburbs in which we live.
There are five stand-alone episodes, and I recently had the privilege of previewing the entire series and meeting with the creator, Laura Robinson, and creative producer, Rosie Remmerswaal to talk about the project and how it was conceived.
You can check out the audio interview and story that I produced for RNZ National here.
The series is definitely a wonderful reminder of why I moved to Wellington and never left, with Episode One: Newtown, taking me back to my days of going to drama school and hanging out at arty flat parties. But if you’ve never lived here or visited, you’ll still be moved by familiar characters and their unique set of circumstances.
The Burbs team are also looking to shoot another series…can’t wait!
