Previous research has suggested that lipstick sales go up during times of recession, but more recent research reveals that in actual fact, the link is more connected to purchasing ‘small luxuries’ rather than a specific product.
As many of you know, sometimes it’s the little things that count when it comes to boosting our mood.
In terms of my recent emotional slump I’ve been in need of a major pick-me-up, so a beauty binge was in order.
I’m not usually one to buy makeup on impulse, but rather, I tend to think about what’s missing in my beauty arsenal and look for products to replenish, update or fill in the gaps.
With short hair I’ve also come to realise that on the days when I don’t go with a bright lip, I have to play up the intensity of my eyes to avoid looking too boyish.
I’ve been looking for a neutral eyeshadow palette as a daytime alternative to my favourite Stila, Eyes are the Windows ‘Soul’ palette and came across this newly released Natio one in ‘Bloom.’ I was drawn to the clean packaging and neutrals that steer more towards pinky, rather than brownish tones.
It’s a lovely ‘fresh’ palette, which is perfect for those days when I want a natural look. The matte base colours are smooth on application, and my favourite colours from the kit are the last two at the darker end and the peachy shimmer in the middle. The colours are really blendable and the palette will be perfect for travelling.
The colours aren’t quite as pigmented as I would like, but they can be layered for a nice evening look, although it does take a bit of work. If you like to wear a lighter, natural makeup look or you’re not used to wearing eyeshadow then this could be the palette for you!
It also comes with an applicator, but I prefer to use my own brushes. This is a lovely kit for brightening up an olive skin tone, but will also work on fairer complexions. NB: There is also an earthy coloured palette available in this collection.
I haven’t tried many Natio products in the past, but with a 20% discount offer across the entire range I couldn’t resist purchasing a few more things.
The blush and bronze shimmer palette caught my eye. I like to wear highlighters and blush and wanted an alternative to my M.A.C and Hourglass ones. The shimmer in this ‘Rosy Glow’ kit is quite pretty and while I haven’t played with it to full effect, I have discovered that the light pearl pink comes across far too chalky on my skin tone, but the rest of the palette is fine.
My FAVOURITE purchase of all is the Natio Moisturising Lip gloss in ‘Magical.’ I’ve dabbled with lip glosses and haven’t come across one that has been as moisturising as this, so I’m delighted to confirm that it does what it says on the packaging.
The colour payoff is great and so far it’s one of my favourite lip colours. I’ve been wearing this over my Hourglass Opaque Rouge (in either Canvas and Rose). These tend to be quite dry, so with the Natio lip gloss on top it makes for the perfect nude lip for my olive skin. This lip gloss will be perfect over any soft peach or mauve lipstick or lip pencil.
Next week I’ll let you know my thoughts on the Natio Contouring kit…
