I feel like Goldilocks in her teenage years, having graduated from porridge to the land of cosmetics, that being, highlighters and eyeshadow. I’ve tried and tested different brands and colours without finding something that I truly love (unlike lipstick and my trusty fallback — Hourglass Rouge in ‘Rose’).
After a somewhat non-existent summer in Wellington which officially ended before it even begun, I was in need of a massive pick-me-up, because let’s face it, wearing a winter coat in the middle of summer isn’t my idea of a good time. So I found myself drooling over the Mecca Cosmetica website and popped into the store, which is now conveniently much closer to where I work. Hooray!
Given that the last Stila palette I bought was over a year ago, I decided that it was time for something new and what could be better than a palette that comes with a couple of matching blushes!
These Perfect Me Perfect Hue palettes were released late last year. There’s a palette for different skin tones and I chose Medium Tan, but I was attracted to the colours naturally, as a fan of rose gold colours. *The suggestion by the brand is to go for the next shade up if you want to more dramatic look.
The shades are really pigmented, starting with the lightest matte soft nude (Curious) which has a faint lilac undertone. I’ve used the palette a few times now and I love applying the metallic rose (Daring) with a wet brush for a more pigmented, punchy look. The mid-tone red brown is more like a soft purple on my skin and it’s the perfect transition colour.
The eyeshadows in this kit are perfect for day to evening looks and I love the deep plum (Magnetic) which is the darkest colour in the palette and blends beautifully. All of the colours feel luxurious to apply and I couldn’t be happier with this all-in-one package, especially as I’m forever carting around different compacts whenever I travel.
The blushes are lovely and blending the two colours gives me the perfect shade — the peach tone is just a bit too light on my skin when worn on its own. The shades work with my day-to-day lip colours and the palette is the perfect spring/ summer antidote, although it also looks great with a matte plum lipstick, so I’ll look forward to it wearing it over winter.
Also, if you’re on the look-out for a new highlighter I definitely recommend this one by Stila. Heaven’s Hue comes in 3 different shades. I chose the colour Kitten which is described as a shimmering nude pink, but it’s more like a soft neutral gold on my skin colouring.
I love the colour and had been looking for something different from the selection of highlighters that I already own. It feels more like a cream to touch, but sets like a powder on application. Kitten will give you a beautiful sophisticated glow that’s neither too pink, or too gold. And just like that bowl of porridge that Goldilocks devoured in one sitting…it’s just right.
I’m in love all over again, whether the sun is shining, or not!
